Resources to help care for someone with an addiction

Make your day-to-day life easier as a caregiver of someone with an addiction related to gambling, drugs, alcohol or medication:

In Quebec, the emphasis is on working with people affected by addiction by treating them as experts who know what is right for them. For example, the Alcochoix+ program aims to give people back the ability to make decisions about their drinking.

Access to public resources as well as certified community or private resources is also prioritized. The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux provides a directory of addiction resources by region.

Drugs: help and referrals

Drugs: help and referrals offers support, information and referrals to people affected by drug, alcohol and medication use and to those around them.

The organization responds to requests for help by telephone at 1 800 265-2626 and via a chat service.

Drugs: help and referrals also helps you find a drug prevention and use intervention centre and refers you to available resources.

Gambling: help and referrals

Gambling: help and referrals is a telephone service that encourages callers to reflect on their gambling habits and refers problem gamblers and their loved ones to resources for help.

The organization responds to requests for help by phone at: 1 800 461-0140.

A free telecounseling program for problem gamblers is offered, conducted entirely by telephone.
