Winning Practices in Psychosocial Support

Practice

#9 – Ensure that practitioners have the qualifications, skills, essential attitudes, and ethical stance required for high-quality psychosocial support services

Attitudes and skills are fundamental to providing high-quality psychosocial support. Practitioners have the appropriate qualifications, skills, attitudes, and ethical stance required for helping relationships, enriching the support provided to caregivers by being respectful, professional, compassionate, and genuinely supportive.

Practitioners’ ability to engage in introspection and reflective practice allows them to adapt their interventions to caregivers’ needs, recognize their own limitations, and prevent compassion fatigue or burnout.

Practice

#10 – Provide practitioners with initial and ongoing training to ensure high-quality and continuously evolving psychosocial support services

Foundational training is essential to ensure high-quality, consistent, and appropriate interventions that meet the needs of caregivers. It helps strengthen practitioners’ skills, prevent burnout, and ensure the quality of service delivery.

Continuing education, on the other hand, helps maintain and update skills, integrate new practices and knowledge, and ensure ongoing adaptation to the evolving needs of caregivers and the challenges encountered in the field.
