Winning Practices in Psychosocial Support

Practice

#4 – Develop an intervention philosophy that establishes the foundations of the psychosocial support service

The intervention philosophy serves as a compass for practitioners, providing clear guidance on how psychosocial support services are delivered. It is based on fundamental principles and values inherent to the social field, such as dignity, social justice, autonomy, mutual support, and compassion.

It may also encompass several essential elements of the service, including the development of a clear vision aligned with established objectives, as well as the methodology and approaches adopted. By guiding practitioners’ stance and interactions with caregivers, the intervention philosophy promotes consistency in practices and strengthens the quality of the services provided.

Practice

#5 – Use an intervention methodology to facilitate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of psychosocial support

Having an intervention methodology helps organize the different stages, structure the support provided, and ensure consistency in actions to achieve established objectives. The methodology is flexible and can be adapted according to the target of the intervention (individuals, families, groups, etc.), as well as the nature and level of intervention.

To provide personalized and respectful support, the intervention methodology is based on building a relationship of trust, obtaining the caregiver’s free and informed consent, and considering their context, specific needs, and pace throughout the intervention. When applicable, separate processes are established for the caregiver and the person being supported, with an individual file maintained for each person.

Practice

#6 – Use one or more intervention approaches adapted to the needs of caregivers

The service is based on the use of validated approaches and techniques in the field of psychosocial intervention, ensuring that interventions are adapted and grounded in sound principles. Intervention approaches guide practices and provide a reliable, relevant, and appropriate framework to meet the needs of caregivers.

By integrating different approaches, it becomes possible to adapt practices to each caregiver and to the unique dynamics of their situation, thereby providing personalized, high-quality support. These approaches foster a stance centered on caregivers’ experiences and needs.
