Methodology

The development and ongoing updating of winning practices are based on a rigorous and evolving methodology that integrates research findings, discussions with organizations and field partners, as well as collaboration with caregivers and experts in the field.

Terminology

A winning practice is an approach or way of doing things that can help address the diverse needs of caregivers.

It relates to service development, service delivery, and the approaches to be prioritized. The winning practices presented here are not an end in themselves, but rather a reflection of evolving practices that can be refined over time.

They are considered “winning” because, when combined, they are more likely to have a positive impact on caregivers’ quality of life.

Project Methodology

5 Steps

1 – Literature Review

The first step consisted of an in-depth literature review for each of the topics studied (psychosocial support, respite care, information and training, digital services, male caregivers, and post-caregiving). This review included scientific articles and grey literature documents. Key articles were selected, using a snowball approach to identify relevant references cited in these publications.

2 – Data Analysis and Synthesis

Once the articles were selected, an in-depth review was conducted, followed by a synthesis of the relevant information. The data were then organized by theme, making it possible to identify key topics and associated keywords. This work served as the foundation for developing an interview guide that structured discussions with the organizations contacted.

3 – Field Data Collection

Community organizations recognized for their services related to the topics studied were invited to participate in semi-structured qualitative interviews lasting 60 to 90 minutes. These interviews made it possible to gather experiential knowledge, field practices, and reflections from practitioners and managers involved in services for caregivers.

In addition, focus groups were occasionally organized to further enrich the perspectives gathered. The interviews were recorded, allowing for the extraction of verbatim excerpts and the identification of key themes and recurring keywords.

4 – Data Cross-Analysis

Once the data collection process was completed, the information from the scientific literature and interviews was consolidated. This step aimed to cross-reference theoretical knowledge with concrete practices observed in the field.

5 – Development and Validation of Winning Practices

The winning practices were then developed based on the data collected. A preliminary version was submitted to experts, caregivers, and practitioners in the field for critical review. This external consultation made it possible to gather feedback and suggestions for improvement. These contributions were incorporated into the winning practices.

Through this methodology, the winning practices are grounded in research and adapted to real-world contexts, ensuring their relevance and applicability.
