Additional information

Ressource Alzheimer aux proches aidants (Alzheimer Resource for Caregivers)

The Alzheimer Resource for Caregivers project is a multi-service project that includes intervention, training and support. The activities are available in French and English and are designed to prevent caregiver burnout and to foster the ability of people with dementia to live at home. The services offered as part of this project include:

- The Alzheimer Coaching program, which is series of workshops that explore themes related
to the challenges encountered by caregivers of people with dementia. These trainings are
designed to equip caregivers to deal with problem situations;

- Talks encouraging caregivers to recognize their role and sometimes to change the view they
have of the disease;

- The Musclez vos méninges (Train your brain) prevention program designed to promote the
intellectual vitality of caregivers who are experiencing normal ageing and who are worried
about developing the disease;

- Group workshops designed to enhance quality of life, giving caregivers accompanied by the
person receiving care an opportunity to discover that it is still possible to maintain a
harmonious relationship with their loved one;

- Auxiliary respite at home or in respite-stimulation, available to caregivers so that they can
participate in the Société’s various support activities. Safe supervision and stimulation
activities are provided during the respite.

Services are available in the day and evening in Granby, Bedford, Cowansville and Acton Vale.

Répit-stimulation (Respite-Stimulation)

In connection with the Alzheimer Resource for Caregivers project, the Société Alzheimer Granby et région offers respite to caregivers to prevent burnout and give them an opportunity to recharge their batteries. Caregivers can take this respite time to meet with social workers individually or participate in group activities provided by the Société or their partners. The service is available five days a week in Granby from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and three days a week in Cowansville during the same hours. The service can also be adapted to the needs of working caregivers through evening and weekend blocks so that they can participate in activities organized as part of the Alzheimer Resource for Caregivers project.
