Most of these projects are already in the process of being carried out in each of the Côte-Nord RCMs; however, some of them have been enhanced to adequately complete the offer of services already provided. The board of directors analyzed these seven projects on January 29, 2019. The total budget requested was $430,000 and included the seven projects as well as four other respite projects that will end on March 31, 2020. Confirmation of the projects selected will be provided by mid-March 2019, and the budget will be reduced to $367,000.
Respite needs are gaining popularity and, in 2017-2018, received 74% of the total budget that Appui Côte-Nord has for funding respite, information, training and psychosocial support throughout its territory. From Tadoussac to Blanc-Sablon, 152 caregivers were able to benefit from 12,896 hours of respite. Despite the focus placed on this essential service, we also respond to the other services covered by our program, offering training on resilience and grief. The person who provides this service travels throughout the territory and tries to respond to the specific needs of groups who submit a request by customizing interventions. Private sessions are also available for caregivers who prefer to work individually rather than in a group. This flexibility means that the small municipalities far from the large centres can be reached and therefore a service gap is filled that otherwise could not be filled.
